Spanish Court Approves Development of Anfi’s Golf Resort

It’s a go.

Anfi Group, one of the leading property developers in Spain, recently won an appeal to continue the second-phase construction of the Anfi Tauro Golf and Luxury Resorts in Gran Canaria. Spain’s Supreme Administrative Court sided with Anfi and the town council of Mogan, confirming the feasibility of the 7,500-room project.

“These are the first seeds of a tree that will drive the development of the area and will become of the most important tourist resorts in Europe,” a spokesperson for Anfi Tauro said after the court announced its verdict.

The contested resort, which targets upscale European tourists, has already seen comprehensive development. It boasts a luxury hotel, a separate row of luxury villas and bungalows, a miniature 9-hole pitch, and an 18-hole championship course designed by von Hagge, Smelek and Baril. The resort also houses an international golf academy and played host to a Spanish PGA tournament. A no-go judgment at this point would have meant substantial losses for Anfi.

In fact, the company has invested over €400 million ($506 million) in the development of the Tauro valley resort. According to the feasibility study, it will be one of the most significant tourist magnets in the Canary Islands, contributing greatly to Gran Canaria’s public coffers and generating over 1,000 jobs for locals.

Once completed, Anfi Tauro Golf and Luxury Resorts will consist of a further 12 hotels, a 500-berth recreational harbor, two man-made beaches, a shopping center and clinic that specializes in respiratory diseases.
