UK Travel Poll Shows Britons Stick to their Favorite Resorts

The UK’s fastest growing online independent travel agent, Sunshine.co.uk has found a trend among British vacationers, revealing that more than a third who go abroad each year always pick the same resort for their holiday.

Sunshine.co.uk’s survey of 1,926 annual tourists aimed to determine more about holiday resort loyalty and whether Brits are prone to being caught in their ways, or whether they are actually in favor of change.

Based on the findings, 36% of holidaymakers choose the same resort, with 24% of these stating they “dislike change”. This 36% were subsequently asked, “Why do you not look into holidays elsewhere”.

While 1 in 4respondents, or 24%, claimed to dislike change, 51% said they wouldn’t go to a different for fear it wouldn’t live up to their “favorite” place. Moreover, 1 in 5 of the 36% that opted for the same resort every year said they went as far as reserving at the same hotel.

Meanwhile, only 11% of the respondents said they prefer going to somewhere else new every year. When asked why, 62% stated they wanted to “see the world”, while 27% cited “boredom” as their reason for going to new destinations annually.

Furthermore, based on the poll, 31% said that they stayed at the same country every year, but tried out different resorts in the area, while the remaining 22% stated that they alternated each year between their favorite places.

Chris Brown, co-founder of Sunshine.co.uk, said that by mere looking at the booking statistics on their site, they notice that a lot of people prefer to revisit resorts every year. Hence, they wanted to look into the idea of “resort loyalty” in a deeper perspective and find the rationale behind it.

“It seems a lot of people can’t break the habit of going to the same resort, or even the same hotel, every year; predominately because they don’t like change. It’s understandable that many are wary of trying somewhere new, as once you like a certain resort, the next place you visit has a lot to live up to.”

“We’d encourage people to try new places if they are brave enough, as there are so many holiday destinations to pick from, it would be a shame for them to miss out and just experience the same place every year. As they say, variety is the spice of life,” he concluded.
