Donald Trump’s Timeshare Project Hampered by Protesting Residents
Billionaire and US reality-show superstar Donald Trump has arrived in Europe to try and finalize the plans for his latest venture, a massive timeshare resort located near Aberdeen, Scotland. Comprising two 18-hole championship golf courses, four blocks of 950 timeshare apartments, 36 villas, 500 private homes, a golf academy and accommodations for the complex’s 400 staff, the project is estimated to cost up to $1 billion and is expected to raise the bar for industry standards.
While plans for the gigantic project have been approved in principle, many local residents are fighting to prevent the property from breaking ground. A number of property owners on the proposed site are refusing to sell their homes and have joined together to form the group Tripping Up Trump.
Recently, the group has purchased property from Michael Forbes, one of the most vocal rebels against the project. His home sits right in the heart of the planned resort and is essential to making the project possible. According to reports, these residents are refusing to sell their lands to Trump’s company because they hold sentimental values for them, being owned by their families for generations.
The land owners delaying the progress of the project are holding firm to their stands and say they have no intention of letting the Trump Corporation purchase their properties for any amount.
So far the company has offered the following incentives to entice residents to sell their land.
- Purchase of their property at 15% above current market value
- The opportunity to buy a house on the golf complex at cost price
- Lifetime membership of the golf resort.
It seems owners are now calling Mr. Trump a “village idiot” and a “New York Clown.” It seems in addition to being attached to their properties, these owners are now refusing to sell Trump their properties because they feel disrespected. The standoff has been ongoing for a number of months and has recently forced Donald Trump to go to Scotland to apologize to the land owners and try to convince them to sell. When asked about the situation, one resident, Molly Forbes, replied by saying, “I’m still standing firm. If Donald Trump comes here, we’ll tell him what we think of him. If he [has come to apologize], we’ll tell him he’s too damn late.”
Donald Trump is well known for easily completing projects that ordinary people don’t even imagine possible. One of the most notable projects of the hospitality and real-estate tycoon includes the exciting Trump Soho New York, a slick 5-star hotel with striking glass walled building designed by Handel Architects and loft inspired interiors by The Rockwell Group.
