Accor Marks 10th Hotel in Mexico
French hotel group Accor celebrates a milestone in the Mexican market with the opening of its 10th hotel in the country – the ibis Hermosillo. The achievements brings Accor’s supply in Mexico to a total of 1,400 rooms, divided among two Novotels in Mexico City and Monterrey, and eight economical brands in Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Merida, Chihuahua, and most recently, Hermosillo.
“Opening our 10th hotel in Mexico represents the acceptance and trust of our guests in Accor products and services, as well as the credibility and confidence of our partners in the country,” said Jean-Philippe Claret, General Director of Accor in Mexico.
The company’s ibis branded hotels are widely recognized in the country, due to its international quality service paired with value-for-money offer. Accor first started its Mexican operations in 2002, initially penetrating the economical segment. It later launched its luxury brand to cater to the growing number of tourists visiting Mexico’s spectacular coastlines.
After the success of the past eight years, Accor remains firmly committed to expanding its operations in the region. In the past year, it opened four new hotels in Mexico as part of its long-term Development Plan, with three more currently under construction: ibis Ciudad Juarez Consulado (opening late 2010), ibis Cancun Centro (opening January 2011), and ibis San Luis Potosi (opening mid 2011). Also in the pipeline is one more unit in Mexico-Tlalnepantla.
Beyond the ibis and Novotel brands, Accor is also in talks with local partners to launch the successful Motel 6 budget brand, which has over 1,000 properties in US and Canada.
“In Mexico, as in other countries, we have identified a particular growth potential for economy class hotels in major cities with a high number of business travelers,” said Michael Flaxman, COO of Accor for the Americas.
Accor has also given back to the country where it reaped success. Its hotels have developed links with various charitable institutions and NGO’s, such as the “Un Techo para mi País” association that builds houses in low-income communities. Because of its efforts, Accor became the first hotel group to be certified as a Socially Responsible Enterprise by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI) for six consecutive years.
